Child Profiles
Anthony
He loves to tell you about the things he’s learned. Meet Anthony.
Anthony is 13 years old and as inquisitive as they come. His group home manager Mary says Anthony consumes information from the History, Discovery and Learning Channels and recites what he’s learned back to a willing audience. “On the way over,” she laughed, “he told us how the Earth is splitting apart and moving the United States from plates below us.”
Anthony is a soft spoken child who rapidly warms up to those around him. He can be very social and has lots of friends who he likes to hang out and play with. He is also very athletic with a preference for football. Throwing the football with 12 News Today Morning Anchor Scott Light, Anthony was on target. He currently plays on his school’s seventh and eighth grade team as a wide receiver and safety. His dream is to someday play for the Pittsburgh Steelers, his favorite team, and his jersey would reflect his lucky number, 12.
The athlete in him is noticeable in his clothing; his foster mom says Anthony is almost always in some sort of jersey and shorts or training pants with his favorite colors of red and black. He also prefers Michael Jordan or Nike tennis shoes.
At school, Anthony’s favorite subject is math, with science a close second. Reading is the one area he could use a little help with.
Like most 13 year old boys Anthony is into video games, especially PS 2 Basketball. Mary has noticed that Anthony is very good at sharing his Play Station and other toys so that no one is left out. She says the perfect outing for Anthony would be a trip to the movie theater, roller skating, or a hike in Sedona or Flagstaff.
What does Anthony want most? “A family that lets me be a regular kid and who is nice and not too strict,” Anthony reflected. Mary, his group home mother, says he is a kind kid who fits in well at his group home. She thinks he would do best with a family that can take the time to listen to his needs and desires. “He’s a good kid that lets his emotions get to him and he loves to talk and tell you what’s on his mind,” she imparted. “What he really needs most is someone who cares and will let him just be a normal kid with a normal life.”
