Child Profiles
Jorge, born April 1994
Jorge is a handsome and mild-mannered boy with a sweet, sincere smile. While he tends to be soft spoken, he almost always has something interesting to share.
“Jorge is a mellow, ‘go-with-the-flow’ type of guy who is unassuming,” notes Mary Sikora, Jorge’s Adoption Case Manager with the Department of Economic Security. She says that there is a lot to like when it comes to this young man. “He gets along with just about anyone,” she says, noting that he is a child who is incredibly easy to like.
An active and enthusiastic young man, Jorge loves sports, including football, soccer and baseball. His favorite seems to be baseball. Jorge says that he enjoys watching and playing this all-American game. “I like baseball a lot, “he says with a shy grin.
Like most boys his age, Jorge loves playing video games. “I play with my other brothers. We play games like Playstation, Xbox and we talk,” he explains. “There are games like army games,” on these systems, he notes, but his favorite video games are available for his hand-held Gameboy.
Jorge squirms in his chair, looking intently at the Gameboy at his fingertips. The game of the moment is Emerald, a Pokemon adventure. And what is the mission of the game? “You have to collect Pokemon and see ‘em on poke decks and if you get at a lot of Pokemon you get to have three new Pokemon,” he explains to a group of seemingly lost adults. Jorge shakes his head from side to side and gives them all a knowing smile. He knows what the game is all about.
Jorge has just started school and he is pretty excited about it. A brand new fifth grader, Jorge is an eager learner who consistently makes the honor roll at school. Jorge’s favorite subject is Math and it is obvious that he is not afraid of a little hard work in the classroom. He says that he enjoys school and that his favorite part is “doing home work.” Revealing this surprising fact brings a huge smile to Jorge’s face as he scans the room for disbelievers. He raises his eyebrows and looks around, a giggle rumbling up from his tummy.
After school when his homework is complete, Jorge likes to hang out with his friends, play basketball and video games and, of course, watch television. He has no trouble finding fun things to do in his spare time.
Jorge is a smart and kind youngster with a great desire to have a family of his very own. He says that he is eager to join a loving adoptive family of any shape or size. He explains that his ideal family will be the “camping-out, outdoorsy type” - a family that likes to go places and have fun. He would love to find a family that could take him to trade shows and carnival-type events with lots of rides. He adds that he would also relish quiet family evenings with DVDs, microwave popcorn and good company.
