Child Profiles
Isaac, born March 1997
Isaac is a kid who is not a bit afraid of a new adventure. In fact, any adventure is right up this ten-year-old's alley. Whether riding his bike, playing basketball or football or enjoying an afternoon outdoors fishing, Isaac lights up when he is having a good time.
A recent trip to Solid Rock Indoor Climbing Gym in Tolleson was just the adventure to bring a huge smile to Isaac's handsome face. Though he had only been rock climbing once before, he took to the ropes instantaneously. And he was eager to teach 12 News Today anchor, Scott Light, all about how to scale the walls.
"You're good dude," Light told Isaac as he held tight to the belay rope. Grinning, Isaac looked down at him from the wall above. It was if he was in his element.
After mastering the elementary level rock walls, Isaac moved through the gym tackling more and more difficult climbing routes. By hour's end, Isaac was trying out the nearly horizontal overhang walls that left him hanging upside down, clinging to the rosin foot holds with the sides of his sneakers.
Afterwards, Isaac sat down with Light to tell him about himself. Before they could start, Light made sure to complement him on his dexterity and obvious talent for rock climbing. "This is my first time being here and it was fun being here," Isaac told him. "I was acting like I was batman. That was fun!"
In his spare time, Isaac enjoys watching movies, playing video games and, of course, staying active. An artistic boy, he loves painting and drawing. And, like his peers, he does not mind taking time out to catch his favorite shows on TV. "I like the Fairly Odd Parents, The Sweet Life of Zach and Cody and Tom and Jerry," he shared.
"Tell me your favorite food," Light inquired. "Seafood," Isaac answered matter-of-factly. He loves the stuff, whether it's shrimp, crabs, lobster or fish. The only seafood dish he cannot quite stomach, he said, is squid. When it comes to other foods, Isaac noted that he is not very picky. "I like just about everything," he said.
Entering fourth grade this August, Isaac is a child who likes to learn. Despite being behind his peers academically, he is a smart boy who looks forward to catching up. He noted that his favorite subjects are math and science. Last year, he said, his science class explored the world of crystals, "and we grew rocks in class - crystals." The purple ones their lab created grew to be, "as big as my head."
Isaac told Light that he hopes to be an NFL pro or an NBA all star when he gets older. If professional football becomes his fortune, he hopes to play his favorite position - linebacker - on his very favorite team, the Oakland Raiders. And if the basketball league comes calling, it is the Chicago Bulls he would prefer to serve.
"If you can't play sports, what would you do," Light asked him.
"I'd be a fireman," he said.
"And why would you be a fireman?"
"'Cause I like rescuing people," he explained.
For now, he is focused on something pretty important. Isaac hopes to become part of a loving family. His ideal family will include active parents and children his age or older. He is open to being an only child also. He hopes that his new family will be active, adventurous people who will give him plenty of attention and participate in fun activities - like camping, fishing, playing sports and rock climbing - with him.
