Alvaro

When he grows up, he will be able to sell you anything. With an easy smile and his ability to smooth talk the toughest person, Alvaro is a charmer.

Sensitive and busy are words that best describe Alvaro. Keeping the 8 year old busy isn’t much of a chore. This artistic boy loves to cut, paste, draw and create wonderful works of art from crayons, scraps of paper or any other supplies he’s given.

When the quiet side strikes, Alvaro will dazzle anyone with his Yugioh Card collection. The brilliant colors and strategy of Yugioh captivate the youngster’s imagination, sending him soaring to other worlds and places.

Asked about his favorite TV, Alvaro exclaimed, “Digimon, because they have lots of action and they are cool.” He also is captivated by video games that he and his friends can play for hours.

“Cars” is his favorite movie. Alvaro likes the humor of the movie and the idea of moving real fast. “Transformers” is another movie that lights up the youngster’s face.

What makes Alvaro stand out, according to his Foster Mother Karen, is his outgoing personality. Alvaro is very social and has many friends. She is most impressed with his unyielding desire to be around the adults in his life. “Alvaro is eager to be with adults and loves the attention. He is eager to please those around him,” she says.

Alvaro is all boy when it comes to outdoor play. Whether it’s pedaling his bike around the neighborhood or playing basketball, he’s a skilled athlete. He showed his athletic prowess at a recent outing at Encanto Park, throwing perfect spirals to Channel 12 Wednesday’s Child Host Scott Light. Each completed pass sparked a proud confident smile across Alvaro’s likeable face. When the weather heats up, Alvaro stays cool in the pool and he relishes swimming and playing games in the water.

There’s another truth to Alvaro. You can count on him being loyal, courteous and kind; Alvaro is extremely fond of Cub Scouting and the many activities they offer.

Keeping Alvaro fed doesn’t require a gourmet’s flare. Sitting down to a bowl of chicken noodle soup fulfills his hunger at home. Dining out, Alvaro is thrilled with Chuck E. Cheese where the pizza satisfies his hunger and there are games to keep his rambunctious side occupied. When Light grilled Alvaro on his cuisine of choice, green peas, lima beans and chicken sandwiches all got a thumb down.

Because he is so energetic, learning can be a trouble spot for Alvaro. It’s not that he doesn’t like school, he loves going each day. His reading skills are a challenge but he loves to read and be read to. He will need a family that can help with the hurdles of education, but with his love for learning, he should quickly respond.

What does he envision for his “perfect” family? Alvaro says one that is active camping, swimming, playing games like football and basketball, and riding bikes.

Foster Mom Karen advises Alvaro will do best in a family with strong but flexible parenting skills. “Alvaro responds best when nurtured, versus a by-the-book type environment,” she stressed. She adds that Alvaro should be in a family where he is the youngest or only child. “Most of all, he just needs someone who will love him and will help him develop into the incredible kid he has the potential to be.”
