Gregory, born January 1999
Gregory has big, bright green eyes that just seem to sparkle when he smiles. And a recent trip to visit Phoenix Coyotes Team Captain Shane Doan and fellow Coyote Keith Ballard at the Jobing.com Arena made Gregory's face light up like nothing else could.
Though he had never tried ice skating before lacing his ice skates on this day, Gregory was not hesitant to get out onto the arenafs ice and learn. With the help of Coyote Keith Ballard, Gregory wobbled onto the ice. He was unstable at first, but after a while, he started to get the hang of it.
After a while, the two were hitting the puck back and forth on the ice. Later that afternoon, Gregory was eager to share his once-in-a-lifetime experience with 12 News Today anchor, Scott Light.
"Gregory, tell me about your day, what did you do today man?"
Gregory sat up and gave him a million dollar smile. Moving his hands back and forth to simulate his hockey motion, Gregory told him all about his time on the ice. "I went whoosh, whoosh, whoosh on the basket. That was fun."
"You hit the puck right," Light asked him.
"Yeah," he replied. "I hit the puck."
Noticing the treasures clutched in Gregory's hands, Light asked him what else the Coyotes had treated him to. "Good job! And then what did they give you to take home?"
"A hockey stick and a puck!"
Just minutes before the two sat down to talk, Doan and Ballard had taken Gregory on a special behind the scenes tour of the arena. Doan was especially eager to share with him the teamfs secret stash of instant cocoa and whipped cream. Gregory watched as Doan whipped up enough of the sweet stuff for the both of them. Then, the pair guzzled down their cups of hot chocolate.
"And, where did they take you, what was that room back there," Light asked Gregory after their tour.
"The dressing room!"
Gregory eagerly shared everything he saw in the Coyotesf very own locker room. "Clothes, uniforms and hats and gloves," he exclaimed with excitement. His face lit up with every word out of his mouth. It was easy to see that this day was one he would remember forever.
Smiling, Light asked him, "So, was this a great day?"
Gregory sighed, shook his head and smiled like he had won the lottery. His one word answer said it all. "Yeah!"
"So what was your favorite part," Light inquired. gGetting the hockey stick, getting the puck or being out on the ice?h
Gregory looked to the gifts the players had autographed for him. "(The) hockey stick and puck," he said, raising his eyebrows in delight.
When he is not meeting his hockey heroes, Gregory is a little boy who finds plenty of fun activities to fill his time. His favorite sports include, "Basketball, hockey, football, (and) soccer ball." An energetic boy, Gregory likes playing outdoors. Whether it's four wheeling, camping, fishing or swimming, this kid is eager to take advantage of Arizonafs sunshine. In addition, he loves watching musicals, singing and dancing.
A bright and vibrant spirit, Gregory is very helpful. He especially loves to plant and nurture the flower beds in his group home's garden.
When it comes to TV and movies, Gregory has several favorite action heroes he just loves to watch. Without question, the Power Rangers, the Incredible Hulk, Tarzan and Spiderman top his list.
Gregory has a hearty appetite and is not very picky when it comes to food. His favorites include, "corn, green beans, chicken and potatoes."
Gregory is eager to join a family. He noted that he would really like to have both a mom and a dad. He also said that he would like to have older brothers, two big dogs, a cat and maybe even a horse. Gregory's new family must be able to provide structure, understanding, consistency and a nurturing parenting style. His ideal family will include a strong and positive male role model and caring individuals eager to share in Gregory's hobbies and interests.
