Mentoring Kids 5-17

Mentors provide foster children in this age group with memorable experiences and a stable adult presence.

Think back. Did you have someone go with you to shop for your prom dress? Someone who cheered you on at your championship swim meet? Someone who gave you a high five after successfully completing your first week of finals?

Sadly, many foster children do not have stable adults in their lives and, as a result, they face many of these important milestones alone.

As a mentor there are many opportunities to create memorable experiences for a foster child. Away from their parents and without a stable home environment, what these children need more than anything is just one adult to step forward and say they care about them, their life is important and they matter.

With the presence of a stable adult in their lives, 73% of youth are more optimistic about their futures. A mentor can make the difference in a foster child's life simply by spending time with them watching movies, going hiking, doing arts and crafts, visiting a favorite restaurant or just sitting around and chatting. A mentor can help motivate their mentee to achieve their personal best by cheering them on and taking pride in their accomplishments. By listening, supporting, and encouraging, a mentor can make a huge difference in the life of a foster child!
