It was Angelina who noticed the lock box containing the explorer’s notes. It was Angelina who remembered the location of the tiles that unlocked the final puzzle. Angelina is a good person to have around when you’re trying to find your way out of an ancient Mayan tomb – or the convincing re-creation of one at Escape Westgate, an escape room complex in Glendale. Solving the puzzles that are part of the escape room challenge was great fun, the seventh-grader says, but having to pull jungle vines that triggered howling monkeys was a little scary. “Those vines,” she says with a shudder. “I didn’t like the monkey noise.”
But Angelina loves monkeys themselves. She loves every sort of animal, as a matter of fact. “I love all animals,” she says, “even if it’s a reptile and I might be afraid of them.” She also loves Sun Devils and hopes to go to Arizona State University.
“I’ve always wanted to go to ASU,” she says. Angelina likes school and does well enough to earn a recent invitation to an awards dinner. “I would have to say my favorite subject would have to be reading,” she adds. Angelina is also passionate about anime, the Japanese style animation. “I think anime characters are so pretty,” Angelina says. “They have their own unique personalities.”
