John's eyes opened wide, as he watched basketballs glide through the air from the hands of Phoenix Suns basketball players. Before the game began at US Airways Center, 14-year old John eagerly waited to catch and pass the ball as ball boy for the game. He was even more surprised that Coach Dan Majerle called him by name.
"I'm very excited...I'm going to be the ball boy for the Phoenix Suns!," said John his face beaming with excitement. His favorite players are "Steve Nash and Shaq." At seeing Shaq he was awestruck. "I didn't notice, I was just looking at how big he was!," said John, "He's as big as me and then another half of me but not quite two [of me]."
It's no wonder why John looks up to Shaq, and not only for his skills on the court but also for his might. If John could have any superpower, he says he would want "super strength, because it would be cool and to be a good guy because the bad guy always loses."
John's favorite part of the day at the Phoenix Suns game includes "seeing the players and being up close to them!" Although he admitted that at first, "I was nervous," being out there on the court with the team, "I felt more relaxed the longer I was out there because I knew what I was doing." "It's nice," he said nodding approvingly, "So far one of the coolest things I've done!"
His sometimes contemplative and always sweet disposition is evident in his many explanations for everyday happenings. Each one is carefully thought out, such as his m&m theory. He will happily tell you about "a little container in the shape of m&m's [where] they would put the chocolate and freeze it to make it hard. Then they would have the shell which is in liquid form before it turns hard. Then they'd pour it over the chocolate, then freeze it again. And then, there's an m&m!"
Even though John likes to create theories for many things, he also enjoys doing the things that any other teenager does, even if it means getting into a bit of mischief every now and then.
John also has a theory on what type of family he would like. "Someone who's nice and likes to do activities and maybe has a son or daughter, doesn't matter older or younger...and yeah at least a dog or a cat," says John.
John is a smart and caring teenager. He likes to help around the house and would fit in well with a family who can share in his curiosity and help engage his intellect. John would like a family that "listens to me."
