Lifebook
Do you have a cherished family photo on your fridge? Or perhaps an old album filled with memories of childhood summers gone by? How would you feel if you had to leave these items behind?
Do you enjoy scrapbooking?
In the process of moving, many foster kids leave behind important photos and treasures that remind them of their loved ones. Removed from their parents and even siblings, they can feel very alone and confused about what is happening to them.
How does the program benefit children?
The Lifebook program is a way to give foster children back some of their history and dignity. Lifebook volunteers work closely with the child's Case Manager to research the child's life story and create a scrapbook honoring it. By speaking with old teachers, neighbors, friends, relatives and foster parents they are able to piece together the child's experiences, collecting photos and stories which might otherwise be lost. The end result is a beautiful scrapbook that is presented to the child at a special gathering.
