Tutoring
Do you remember that good feeling when you passed a difficult test? Or your sense of accomplishment when you solved your first algebra equation? Do you remember the person who helped you when you got stumped by a tricky homework question?
Foster children often fall behind their classmates as they frequently change schools and miss days of valuable class time. In fact, many foster youth have experienced four or more school changes. Since each move results in a six month educational delay, many foster kids are two grade levels behind their peers.
How does the program benefit children?
As a tutor, you have the opportunity to help a foster child develop academically while building a meaningful relationship with them. Studies show that the presence of a stable adult in their lives leads 59% of youth to improve their grades. Through consistent support and guidance, you can use your unique strengths and talents to help a child reach his or her full potential.
Whether you assist in math, reading, science, history or another area, the time you spend will make a huge difference to one special child.
