Volunteering with AASK

Each day children are removed from their homes and placed into State care. In fact, there are approximately 13,000 boys and girls currently in Arizona’s foster care system. Ensuring that each of these children has someone who cares depends on hundreds of volunteers who want to make a difference.

Volunteers are currently needed in four priority areas:

  • Individuals or couples who will commit to mentoring a foster youth between the ages of 5 and 21. Mentors through AASK are required to meet with their mentees at least once a month for a minimum of one year.
  • Long term individual volunteers who will commit to a consistent time and number of hours each month for a specific position, i.e. child care, event fundraising coordination.
  • Volunteer teams to complete one-time group projects, i.e. packet assembly, craft room organizing, donation sorting, event staffing.
  • Volunteer companies to conduct in-house group drives to provide necessary items for children in Arizona's foster care system and the families who care for them.

Volunteer Requirements

All volunteers must be at least 18 years old and in some cases, 21 years old. Volunteers who work directly with children and families must be free of serious CPS or criminal background and provide proof with a valid fingerprint clearance from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
